Abstract
Mesquite (Prosopis juliflora var. velutina) seeds and seedlings were cultured in aqueous solns. of 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxy-acetic acid) and 2,4,5-T (2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid) at 1, 2, 5, 10, and 50 ppm. Suppression effect was measured as root and hypocotyl growth, and fresh weight, in comparison with controls. Growth was suppressed by both compounds, but mesquite was not so sensitive as other plants. Concns. above 1 ppm 2,4,5-T were more effective. Mesquite is not inherently resistant to these compounds. Thus, failure of foliage sprays to kill mature trees indicates lack of absorption and translocation. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
