Abstract
In a series of herbage plots, Urtica dioica established itself according to the species of herbage plant sown, suggesting a favorable association between U. dioica and leguminous plants (Trifolium repens, T. pratense, Medicago lupulina) and inability to establish in competition with graminaceous species (Lolium perenne, Dactylis glomerata, Phleum pratense, Festuca pratensis). This evidence confirms the theory of the nitrophilous nature of U. dioica, although consideration is given to the possibility of inhibiting root exudates from the grasses.
