Abstract
The poison sac of queens of the imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta Buren, has been identified as the novel storage site of a queen pheromone. The pheromone elicits orientation and attraction in workers and promotes the deposition of brood. Alkaloids normally associated with the venom of imported fire ants are not responsible for the behavior produced by the queen pheromone. Keywords
