Abstract
First results for the behavior of the virtual quark-antiquark fluctuations around a static-quark charge are presented within lattice QCD. We propose to use the correlation 〈L(0)ψ¯ψ(r)〉 between a static quark and the fermion condensate as a measure for the quark vacuum occupation number density. We predict a decrease of the quark-polarization cloud in the vicinity of a static quark in agreement with antiscreening effects known from perturbation theory. Keywords
