Abstract
The New Zealand species previously placed in Notoreas Meyrick, 1885 and Lythria Hübner, [1823] have been reviewed. Notoreas is redefined, Arctesthes Meyrick, 1885 is reinstated, and Aponotoreas and Paranotoreas are described as new genera. Four Australian species are also referred to Aponotoreas. Systematic conclusions based on male and female genitalic characters are supported by the limited information available on larval characters and foodplants. The following new combinations and synonymies are proposed: (Aponotoreas anthracias (Meyrick, 1883) n. comb.; A. cheimatobiata (Guenée, 1857) n. comb.; A. dascia (Turner, 1904) n. comb.; A. dissimilis (Philpott, 1914) n. comb,; A. epicrossa (Meyrick, 1890) n. comb.; A. incompta (Philpott, 1918) n. comb.; A. insignis (Butler, 1877) n. comb.; A. orphnaea (Meyrick, 1883) n. comb.; A. petrodes (Turner, 1903) n. comb.; A. synclinalis (Hudson, 1903) n. comb.; A. villosa (Philpott, 1917) n. comb.; Arctesthes siris (Hudson, 1908) n. comb.; Asaphodes omichlias (Meyrick, 1883) n. comb.; Notoreas chrysopeda (Meyrick, 1888) n. comb.; N. regilla (Philpott, 1928) n. comb.; Paranotoreas brephosata (Walker, 1862) n. comb.; (=Pasithea vulcanica Meyrick, 1883 n. syn.); P. ferox (Butler, 1877) n. comb.; P. fulva (Hudson, 1905) n. comb.; P. opipara (Philpott, 1915) n. comb.; P. zopyra (Meyrick, 1883) n. comb.
