Abstract
The hydrolysis of cyclic AMP by beef heart cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase occurs with retention of configuration at phosphorus, whereas it is known that adenosine-3′,5′(Sp) phosphorothioate is hydrolysed by the same enzyme with inversion of configuration at phosphorus; thus, the stereochemical course of an enzyme-catalysed reaction of a phosphorothioate analogue of a phosphate ester or nucleotide may not necessarily be the same as that of the natural substrate. Keywords
