METABOLISM OF ADRENAL STEROIDS IN THE MOUSE: 1. OBSERVATIONS ON 20α-DIHYDROCORTICOSTERONE AND CORTICOSTERONE IN THE PLASMA OF MICE TREATED WITH CORTICOTROPIN

Abstract
Plasma levels of corticosterone and 20α-dihydrocorticosterone increase in the mouse following the administration of corticotropin. These are the two most abundant C21Δ4-3-keto adrenal steroids in mouse plasma. The evidence indicates that some, if not all, of the circulating 20α-dihydrocorticosterone represents a tissue metabolite of corticosterone. A procedure is outlined for the synthesis of 20α-dihydrocorticosterone.
