Abstract
Flow birefringence is a convenient and useful technique for studying the initiation and propagation of fluid disturbances in transparent models of the cardiovascular system. Prior quantitative work has been restricted to analysis of two-dimensional systems using shallow channels. The theory of flow birefringence is discussed and a technique for analysis of three-dimensional models is proposed. Keywords
