Abstract
-Toxicological investigation of Tegretol is described: acute oral toxicity in several species; oral administration for 4 and 24 weeks in the rat and for 52 weeks in the dog. In the 4-week investigation in the rat, the daily dose of 200 mg/kg must be regarded as the "no-effect level", and 500 mgAg as the "effect level". After 24 weeks administration of Tegretol in doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg daily, no degenerative changes can be discerned in the organs. There was no indication of a toxic effect of Tegretol in the dog after 52 weeks administration of 100 mg/kg daily under the conditions described.
