Abstract
A striking feature of Jane Ogden's ambitious and stimulating article is her frequent reference to “discourses” within and beyond health psychology. From this perspective, health psychology is constituted by a set of discourses, not only about specific phenomena such as stress and pain, but also about the nature of theory, of research methodology and of practice, which are informed in turn by ontological and epistemological discourses. All of these discourses are located in relation to other disciplinary discourses which focus on the health of the individual, and to broader societal discourses. Keywords
