Abstract
The infra-red and microwave spectra of 2-fluoropropane have been measured and analysed. From the ground state rotational spectrum the rotational constants were calculated to be A= 8693.82, B= 8102.51 and C= 4788.83 MHz. Analysis of rotational lines in the first torsional states (+) and (–) lead to a value for the internal rotation barrier of 14.9 ± 1.3 kJ mol–1(3560 ± 300 cal mol–1). No analysis of top–top coupling was made but these terms are estimated to be less than those found for propane. The dipole moment was found to be 1.96 ± 0.03 D. Many of the infra-red absorption lines have been assigned to characteristic group frequencies. Keywords
