Abstract
A right angle metal cannula is descr. The cannula is open at both ends and at the vertex. It is passed through the azygous vein and thence into the superior vena cava, right auricle and into the inferior vena cava. It is ligated in place so that all the blood from both cavae enters the cannula and is diverted from the right auricle. The results of 19 mechanical heart expts. are given in which the cannula was used to divert the caval flow from the right side of the heart. Keywords
