Abstract
During the years from 1970 on, when the decrease in alcohol consumption occurred, a number of remarkable changes occurred in Italy as to working conditions, family structures and family roles, new lifestyles and consumption patterns. The impact of mass migration, urbanization and social mobility on one hand, and of health awareness and destructuring of meals on the other, offer explanations of the decrease. Keywords
