Abstract
Symmetrical Fourier or i -interferograms are computed for an ideal undispersive two-beam interferometer illuminated with black-body radiation of various radiation bandwidths. Interferograms of this kind are those termed background interferograms in practical Fourier spectrometry with broad-band thermal radiation. The agreement between the computed model interferograms and naturally recorded background interferograms for tungsten-filament radiation is surprisingly good. The model interferograms may therefore be very useful in understanding undispersive background interferograms. Keywords
