Abstract
Trunk treatments with paradi-chlorobenzene crystals and liquid, and emulsions of ethylene dichloride have given satisfactory control of Sannlnoidea exitiosa. Borer populations, however, have been perpetuated by moths developing from larvae in roots 12-36 in. out from the base of the trees. Applications of DDT sprays to the trunks and crotches of peach trees, by killing larvae and adults, have proved effective in controlling the borer. Two applications, the 1st in early July and the 2d in mid-Aug., of 4 lbs. actual DDT/100 gal. gave satisfactory control of the borer. Chlordane at 1 lb./100 gal. was not as effective and had a short period of residual killing. Parathion, 1 lb. of 25% material, gave good control.
