Abstract
We calculate the relativistic corrections of leading order to the electric dipole one-photon transition rates of charmonium using an approximately relativistic theory of the composite system and the simple harmonic-oscillator-type confining potential. We find that the corrections are large, of the order of -30% to -70%, for the decay rates. Keywords
