Studies on bioactive substances in crude drugs used for arthritic diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. III. Isolation and identification of anti-inflammatory and analgesic principles from the whole herb of Pyrola rotundifolia L.

Abstract
Anti-inflammatory and analgesic principles were isolated from the methanol extract of the whole herb of Pyrola rotundifolia L., based on bioassay of the inhibitory activities on carrageenan-induced hind paw edema in rats and on acetic acid-induced writhing in mice. The principles were identified as ursolic acid and chimaphilin.
