Abuse of adults with learning difficulties

Abstract
Until recently professionals working on issues of sexuality were almost exclusively concerned about increasing the options open to people with learning difficulties to enter into sexual relationships on the same basis as other adults. Now they are beginning to come face-to- face with the issue of sexual abuse and need to develop strategies to educate service users, their parents and carers about the risks and how they should respond.
