Abstract
This investigation concerns the criteria which children use to evaluate educational and other software. The study was based on children aged 6 to 14 years in ten schools in Southern England. The children were interviewed in groups of four and the discussions taped. Data based on transcripts of the recordings suggest that the children were mature and sophisticated in their judgements. Their evaluative criteria derived from the standards of mass consumer electronics (home computer games) rather than from education. The findings of this study provide endorsement for studies carried out in the USA in the late 1970s.Keywords
