Abstract
Aleksei Nikolaevich Leont'ev was born in Moscow on 5 February 1903 to the family of a civil servant. He died on 21 January 1979. The whole of his conscious life, as of that of his contemporaries, coincided with the most momentous periods in the history of our country—the years of its social and economic development, the years of the war and the elimination of its aftereffects, the years of struggling for and acquiring unprecedented authority on the international scene, in political and economic life, and in culture and science. Indeed, his biography, even if restricted to its scientific aspect, is inseparable from the biography of the whole generation to which he belonged. Keywords
