Turtles grow more rapidly than heretofore supposed, but may show great fluctuations in rate. Caretta caretta weighed (average) at hatching 20 gm.; at 4f months, 800 gm.; at 3 years, 19 kgm. The time necessary to attain its maximum weight of 500 lbs. is unknown.
