Abstract
An advanced accelerator is proposed. The counterstreaming-electron-beam wake-field accelerator replaces the stationary background plasma of the plasma wake-field accelerator by a magnetized electron beam (relativistic factor ), drifting antiparallel to the driving electron beam and driven particles. Both the transformer ratio and the plasma wavelength are increased by a factor of f∼2, thus dramatically enhancing the energy gain of the driven particles per acceleration stage. Furthermore, the particle-trapping threshold is greatly reduced so that proton acceleration may be possible.
