Abstract
Potentiostatic studies in 0.5M sodium chloride solution show that an arsenic addition to the alloy is only effective in preventing dealloying of α‐brass at potentials more noble than 0.0V on the hydrogen scale. This potential coincides with that potential at which arsenic in the alloy can be oxidized to soluble arsenite ions in solution. A mechanism by which arsenite or arsenate ions in solution inhibit dealloying is proposed. Keywords
