Abstract
The autoionization partial widths to the 1s channel of the Wannier two-electron ionization ladder of H- are computed quantum mechanically and are compared with earlier results obtained from qualitative or semiclassical arguments. The energy dependence of the partial width Gamma (E) turns out to be approximately Ep, p=3.4+or-0.2, which, making the substitution E approximately 1/n2, corresponds to Gamma (n) approximately n-6.8+or-0.4. This finding is in reasonable agreement with an earlier result of Rau (1983-4), Gamma (n) approximately n-6.254, and in strong disagreement with the recently published result of Cvejanovic et al. (1990) which is Gamma (n) approximately n-3.254. A new semiclassical theory by Komninos (1990) confirms Rau's conjecture. Keywords
