Prolonged Hypothermia in the Dog

Abstract
Prolonged, stable low body temps. were produced for an avg. of 10.35 hrs. (1-34 hrs.) in 13 of 26 expts. on anesthetized dogs. The procedure employed to induce and maintain hypothermia consisted of an initial phase, environmental air temp. about -10oC, and a second phase during which the air temp. was raised to about 22[degree]C. Thereafter the environment was maintained 3-4 degrees below the rectal temp. in those expts. in which stable rectal temps. were established. The responses of the stable and non-stable groups of animals to this procedure are reported.
