Abstract
Active Hb in man, the horse, Bothrops jararaca and dog was detd. by the O2-capacity method of Van Slyke and Stadie, and total Hb by the Fe method of Ponder. The difference between total and active Hb was considered inactive Hb. The frequency (100%) and mean quantity (17%) of inactive Hb were much greater in Bothrops jararaca than in the other spp. This may be the first observation of inactive Hb in poikilothermous animals.
