Abstract
Different daylight measurements for in situ photosynthetic studies in different areas of the sea are discussed in detail. As a result of these discussions practical measuring techniques useful to marine biologists are presented. Field measurements and simple theoretical considerations demonstrate that measuring light quanta in the spectral range 350 to 700 nanometer in the sea as recommended by SCOR's Working Group 15 may lead to appreciable errors.
