A Laboratory Investigation into the effect of elapsed time after mixing on the compaction and strength of soil-cement

Abstract
Synopsis The Paper describes a laboratory investigation which showed that noor states of compaction and reduced strengths were obtained when there was a delay of several hours between the mixing and compaction of cement-stabilized gravel and clay. With a cement-stabilized sand there was little reduction in the state of compaction due to the delay but slightly reduced strengths occurred. The results show that an estimate of the probable delay between mixing and compaction of stabilized soil in the construction of road and airfield bases is necessary when choosing plant and planning the programme of work. L'article décrit une recherche de laboratoire faisant apparaîte de mauvaises conditions de compactage et des résistances réduites obtenues aprés plusieurs heures de délai entre le mélange et le compactage de gravier stabilisé au ciment et d'argile. Avec un sable stabilisé au ciment il y eut peu de détérioration de la condition de compactage dûe au délai mais il se produisit de légères diminutions de résistance. Les résultats montrent qu'une estimation du délai probable entre le mélange et le compactage de sol stabilisé lors de la construction de routes et de terrains d'aviation est nécessaire en choississant I'installation et en préparant l'emploi du temps du travail.
