Abstract
The proton magnetic resonance line shapes have been observed in solid sym‐tetrachloroethane and sym‐tetrabromoethane. The second moments of the absorption lines provide unambiguous assignments of the molecular forms. The results confirm the formation by CHBr2CHBr2 of crystals of either trans‐ or of gauche‐molecules, depending upon thermal treatment, with the trans‐crystals stabler at low temperatures. Only the gauche‐form of solid CHCl2CHCl2 could be prepared. Keywords
