Distribution of Mass in Salivary Gland Chromosomes

Abstract
Salivary gland chromosomes of Chironomus fixed by acetic acid were stretched by pressure between 2 glass plates, mounted on a collodion film circa of 0.5u supported by a 6mm X 0.5mm brass disk and subjected to soft X-rays (8-12A). The X-ray image shows the same general picture as photography in u.-v. light and other usual methods but gives a distribution of mass dry wt. per unit area which is 2-10 times higher in the bands than in the interband spaces.
