A Reliable High Vacuum Gauge and Control System

Abstract
A new instrument for the measurement of vacuum is described. Two gauges are employed, one a thermocouple and the other a discharge gauge. The instrument is extremely satisfactory for the measurement of pressures in the range from atmospheric pressure to less than 10−4 mm Hg. Both gauges are of a type which will not be damaged if gases are suddenly admitted to the system. The gauges and power supply are described in detail. A circuit is given whereby the current from the gauges may be used to control equipment so that the pressure in the vacuum system may be used to operate other devices.
