Synthesis of the First Component of Guinea Pig Complement by Columnar Epithelial Cells of the Small Intestine

Abstract
Summary: The hemolytic plaque assay has been adapted to the study of synthesis of C′1 by individual cells. With this method we found that in the guinea pig the only cells capable of producing plaques due to hemolytic C′1 were the columnar epithelial cells of the small intestine. The production of hemolytic plaques was inhibited by puromycin. None of the other cell types studied were capable of producing hemolytic plaques.
