Abstract
The climate, soil types, vegetation, land use and crops of The Gambia are briefly introduced. The most important weeds are commented on and a checklist of 219 species is appended. Methods of weed control in current use and which are undergoing research and development are described. They include hand cultivations, animal-drawn equipment, herbicides and fallow management. Current training of farmers and agricultural staff is mentioned.Keywords
