Abstract
The principles behind the use of continuous opened networks of fibrillated polypropylene film in a cement matrix are outlined. The excellent mechanical bonding between the film and the cement matrix enables closely spaced cracking to be achieved while the shape of the stress-strain curve demonstrates the ability of the composite to absorb transient overloads. It is shown that sheets of low materials cost can be produced which can comply with the British Standard loading requirements for asbestos cement sheeting. Keywords
