Abstract
The change in the index of refraction and the magnitude of the Faraday effect are computed for nonmetallic crystals (or solutions) containing impurities or color centers. Both effects are found to be easily measurable. A brief comparison with previous experimental and theoretical work is presented, and a suggestion is made for further experiments. Keywords
