Abstract
Chromatopyrography (CPG), is an improved pyrolysis gas chromatography (PGC), which easily, rapidly, positively, and inexpensively characterizes the formulation and the polymer of a compounded polymeric material using a one-step/two-shot process. The complex components are divided in the injection port into three groups: (A) volatile, (B) polymer, and (C) inorganic. Group A is released by flash vaporization, Group B is released by pyrolysis, and Group C remains as residue. The chromatopyrogram consists of a chromatogram representing a fingerprint of the formulation and a pyrogram representing a fingerprint of the polymer; together they specifically characterize a polymeric material. CPG is suitable for quality control applications. Keywords
