Comparison of different coding schemes for high bit rate OFDM in a 60 GHz environment

Abstract
Convolutional, block as well as concatenated coding schemes are used to encode a high bit rate (net bit rate: 150 Mbit/s) data stream which carries asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) cells. The coded data stream is mapped to 1024 subcarriers of an OFDM scheme, the subcarriers are differentially binary or quaternary modulated. The complex channel data used for simulations are obtained by wideband measurements at 60 GHz. Mean bit error rates are shown for different mean signal to noise ratios. As a main result, turbo codes were found to be better suited than the competitors in a 60 GHz OFDM environment.
