Abstract
Solns. containing 500 Oxf. units of Ca penicillin per ml. and adrenalin in concs. not over 1-16000 showed no loss of activity compared with aqueous control solns. when kept at 37[degree]C, 5[degree]C or at room temp. for 24 hrs. Stability assays involved the cylinder plate method, using Bacillus subtilis. Injns. into rabbits followed by assays on plasma using S. pyogenes as the test organism showed that aq. solns. of penicillin caused maximum bac-teriostasis at about 20 min. Addn. of adrenalin to penicillin solns. caused lesser penicillin concs. in the early samples tested 1 1/2-3 hrs. after injn. Bacteriostatic serum levels were prolonged in several human subjects by injns. of 20000 to 50000 units of penicillin dissolved in 2-4 ml. of 1-25000 or 1-50000 adrenalin as compared with control subjects injd. with saline solns. of penicillin. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
