Abstract
Rosenthal and Vandow report on the prevalence of veneral disease in prostitutes in New York City from 1936 to 1956 They state that at present the prostitute plays a lesser role in the spread of venereal disease than does the promiscuous amateur. The percentage of women with gonorrhea, primary and secondary syphilis and latent syphilis has declined markedly since the war years.
