Abstract
Sulfite reductases in crude extracts of sulfate-reducing bacteria were detected by a polyacrylamide gel disc electrophoretic technique in which the sites of sulfite reductase activity were identified by precipitating sulfide as black FeS. Black bands were coincident with brown bands in Desulfotomaculum nigrificans extracts and with green bands in Desulfovibrio gigas extracts. The results are discussed in relation to present knowledge on sulfite reduction in sulfate-reducing bacteria.
