Abstract
DURING the period January 1, 1952, through April 15, 1953, 671 cases of infectious hepatitis were reported to have occurred in Maine. This was far in excess of the number known to have occurred over a similar previous period though no true incidence was known before 1948, when the disease became reportable. In 1947 a small localized epidemic, involving an estimated 100 cases, had appeared in the southwest portion of the State.
