Abstract
Dark fixation is sometimes a large fraction of light fixation, for instance in oligotrophic waters(subarctic, oceanic). Primary production results are biased by the different uses of dark fixationin computations. Dark fixation is not related to light fixation but to other environmental para-meters. The necessity of independent analysis of dark fixation is stressed, and the value of existing primary production results for studies on food web discussed. Keywords
