Abstract
The analysis of the X-ray small angle scattering of isolated chloroplasts of Antirrhinum majus and of living Chlorella cells leads to the assumption of a two- dimensional lattice in the protein layer of the lipoprotein lamella. The lattice arrangement, however, does not extend in connected form throughout the entire lamella surface. Rather the protein layer is to be imagined as a loose joining of 2-dimensional crystallites or as amorphous and crystalline areas put together. Each crystallite consists of about 30 protein particles. The best adjustment of the experimental scatter curve is obtained by the assumption of a quadratic lattice in the crystalline region. The distance between the centers of 2 adjacent particles is the 36.5 A.This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
