Abstract
The isolated perfused rat kidney is often used in the study of renal blood flow and metabolism. This preparation overcomes many of the difficulties of studying an organ which is under simultaneous nervous, hormonal, hemodynamic and biochemical control. Properties of the kidney perfused with defined artificial media are discussed, along with technical developments, criteria of physiologic function and defects of the perfused kidney. Stable metabolic and physiological transformations in the kidney under the influence of a prolonged physiological stimulus were demonstrated, including K+ secretion, PO4-3 reabsorption and HCO3- reabsorption. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
