Detection of Circulatory Shunts by Use of a Radioactive Gas.

Abstract
Summary A radioactive gas, ethyl iodide, containing I131, has been administered to normal dogs and dogs with atrial septal defects. Simultaneous samples taken in the pulmonary artery and femoral artery give a clear indication of the presence of the shunt. Its use in human diagnostic procedures is suggested.
