Elevation of Plasma Prolactin After Hypophysial Stalk Section in the Rat1

Abstract
The hypophysial stalk was transected by a parapharyngeal approach in the estrous rat, and blood was withdrawn through a cardiac cannula before anesthesia (methohexital), immediately before stalk section (after 40–50 min of surgery) and 15, 30, 60, 120, 240 min after stalk section. Plasma prolactin concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay. During the surgical approaches in both the stalk section animals and the sham-operated group the plasma prolactin level appeared to decline (to Endocrinology93: 238, 1973)
