A COMPARISON BETWEEN PETHIDINE AND PHENAZOCINE (NARPHEN) FOR RELIEF OF PAIN IN LABOUR

Abstract
Summary: A double‐blind study was made comparing pethidine 150 mg. with phenazocine (Narphen) 3 mg. for relief of pain in labour. In these doses neither pethidine nor phenazocine gave consistently effective analgesia.Phenazocine was less effective as an analgesia but had a lower incidence of side effects and fetal depression. It was concluded that the doses chosen were not equivalent.
