Abstract
One or more lethal doses of bacterial endotoxin were injected intravenously in each of 4 denervated heart-lung preparations in the dog. No changes of significance in the hemodynamics, vascular tone, or myocardial contractility were observed during a period of several hours following the injection. These data support the view that the vascular injury which follows the intravenous injection of bacterial endotoxins is not produced by a direct action upon the heart or blood vessels. This is additional evidence in support of the view that bacterial endotoxin produces vascular collapse by its neurotoxic properties instead of by direct action. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
