Abstract
Maintenance of hypophysectomized rats on diets deficient in I resulted in an increase in the efficiency of I extraction from the blood by the thyroid gland. No reduction in the I content of the thyroid gland was found after maintenance for 1 mo. on such deficient diets. A questionable increase in thyroid acinar cell height, unaccompanied by other morph. manifestations of heightened activity, was noted. It was suggested that hypophyseal TSH is not the only factor capable of stimulating the thyroid gland. Keywords
