Abstract
Blood chemistry studies on 11 patients are presented. Hyperglobulinemia and hyper-proteinemia persisted over periods of yrs. in active cases and disappeared in 2 healed cases. The serum Ca and blood phosphatase were elevated with the blood P and non-protein N values normal. Blood cholesterol was low or normal with esters averaging 64% in active cases. Ca tolerance tests gave variously shaped curves. Bence-Jones protein was found twice in the urine without bone lesions. Bilirubin tolerance tests showed retention in 4 cases. This with the elevated phosphatase and fractional precipitation patterns of the serum proteins indicated impaired hepatic function. The cystic changes found occasionally in the bones were not associated with hyperparathyroidism. Keywords
